Last Updated on June 16, 2024 by Shari Mason

Burger King welcomes **15 million customers daily**. The **Whopper** and **Whopper Jr.** are their top-loved dishes.

These two products were released a few years apart, with one being the smaller version.

We bought Whopper and Whopper Jr to differentiate the two signature burgers from Burger King. Here is the result of our quick comparison between Whopper vs Whopper Jr.

Which Is Better, Whopper or Whopper Jr?

Close Up Shot of Burger

Whopper is better than Whopper Jr because it is bigger and more satisfying. Both burgers are popular products of Burger King — one of the leading fast-food chains worldwide.

The two Whopper varieties are available in more than 18,000 locations at Burger King, with Whopper Jr being the cheaper and smaller option.

Whopper Jr will be an ideal choice if you’re on a strict diet because it has a lower calorie content. In addition, it is also cheaper but with the same flavor and texture as the regular-sized Whopper.

Key Differences

Whopper and Whopper Jr have the same ingredients, lending them the same flavor and texture. Their only difference is the size, but these two Whoppers came with ketchup, mayo, pickles, lettuce, and onions.

Whoppers are the signature product of Burger King, with sales reaching up to 2.1 billion annually, while Whopper Jr is among the top five most popular products [1].

The Whopper Jr is about half the size of the Whopper, and it was invented a few years later in Puerto Rico.

When Luis Arenas-Pérez was about to open a Burger King branch in 1963, he discovered that molds for Whopper buns hadn’t arrived yet from the United States [2].

Pérez decided to use regular-sized buns in time for his opening, calling it “Whopper Jr,” and the brand readily accepted it.

Calorie Counts

A regular Whopper has more calories than Whopper Jr. Whopper has 660 calories, while Whopper Jr has 310 calories, according to Burger King’s website.

Despite the lower calorie contents, it was rumored that Whopper Jr is not a healthier choice than a regular Whopper. Former company employees revealed that Whopper Jr is less famous than Whopper, leaving some of the supplies to get old. They claimed that Whopper Jr would not always be fresh.

Taste & Flavor

Whopper Burger

Whopper Jr tastes just like a regular-sized Whopper but in a smaller size.

“At Burger King, we believe that real food tastes better. That’s why we are working hard to remove preservatives, colors, and flavors from artificial sources from the food we serve in all countries around the world.”

– Fernando Machado, Marketing Executive

This fast-food chain is famous for its flame-grilled burgers that remind you of a backyard barbecue.

Beef Patty

Since Whopper Jr is only half the size of the original Whopper, the same goes for its beef patty. The patties from both Whopper varieties are made of the same ingredients.

The uncooked patty of a Whopper weighs 4 ounces, while a Whopper Jr is about 2 ounces. However, these estimates may vary after cooking the beef patty.

For instance, the beef patty of our Whopper weighs 2.88 ounces, while the Whopper Jr is 1.36 ounces.

Price Point

Whopper is more expensive than Whopper Jr because it is larger. Although the price may vary depending on the location, a Whopper usually costs around $6.79, and a Whopper Jr for about $3.99 in New York.

Some places sometimes have promos and discounts, but two Whopper Jr are usually more expensive than a single regular Whopper.

Yes, based on our observation, Whoppers were much larger and tastier before the 2000s. But food businesses like Burger King are directly affected by the price increase of supplies and growing competition in the market.

u003cstrongu003eIs Whopper just a bigger version of Whopper Jr?u003c/strongu003e

Yes, a Whopper is just a bigger version of Whopper Jr. Whopper is the original offering of the brand, pertaining to something large. u003cbru003eu003cbru003eOn the other hand, Whopper Jr was not a planned product from Burger King; instead, it was produced out of necessity.

In Conclusion

Our team chose a regular-sized Whopper as the better variety than Whopper Jr. It is generally cheaper than two Whopper Jr.

Although both burgers have the same ingredients and taste, a Whopper Jr is not enough to satisfy our cravings for flame-grilled burgers. If you’re not into a strict diet, the original-sized Whopper is still an excellent choice.

But if you’re watching out for your calorie intake, Whopper Jr would be enough to satisfy your taste buds. Our team does not really recommend it because we would rather skip the fries and soda in exchange for a regular Whopper.
