Breyers Delights vs Halo Top Low Cal Ice Cream: Which is Better?

Last Updated on May 17, 2024 by Shari Mason

If weight management and tracking your calorie consumption are priorities for you, it is likely that you will refrain from consuming ice cream, which has 207 calories per serving, and instead choose a more filling option.

But what if I tell you that you can indulge in low-calorie ice cream without guilt, and it’s not just one but two low-cal ice cream brands? Are you excited and torn at the same time?

We feel the same, so here’s our honest review on Breyer Delights vs Halo Top.

Halo Top & Breyers Delights Ice Cream Main Differences

Halo Top Ice Cream

Halo Top contains higher fiber (12g- 48%) than Breyers (3g-12%), so you’ll be full in one pint because it has half of the required daily fiber intake.

Halo Top has slightly fewer calories than Breyers, but when it comes to fat content, Breyers has fewer fats. Also, Halo Top has more flavor offerings than Breyers.

In addition, Halo Top uses less cream and milk, while Breyers uses cream and skim milk in their mixture.

We understand your disbelief about these low-calorie ice creams. However, both use erythritol to sweeten the ice cream without adding calories, which is genius.

Main Differences

Protein Source

Halo Top and Breyers Delights have almost the same protein content, which is around 20g per pint, but they do not have similar protein sources.

Eggs are the primary protein source of Halo Top, while Breyers uses milk protein concentrate. Milk protein concentrate may sound sketchy, but that is just casein which is found in protein powders [1].

Nutrition Profile

Calorie Counts

Halo Top’s calorie count per pint ranges from 290 to 360. Their Oatmeal Cookie contains 290 calories per pint, while their Chocolate Caramel Brownie has 360 calories per pint.

“Calories don’t count if they’re connected to a celebration. Everyone knows this.”

– Janet Evanovich, American Writer

Meanwhile, Breyer Delight’s calorie count per pint ranges from 360 to 380. Their Chocolate Chocolate Chip contains 360 calories per pint, while their Mint Chip has 380 calories per pint.

While Halo Top boasts a lower calorie content, it contains higher fat than Breyers Delight.

Halo Top has around 10g of fat, while Breyers is roughly 9g.

There is a slight difference, but still, they have differences.

When it comes to sodium content, Breyers Delights has less sodium content than Halo Top.

For instance, Breyers Chocolate Chip ice cream contains 5% sodium (115 mg) per pint, while

Halo Top contains 13% sodium (310 mg) per pint.

When we compared both brands’ Mint Chip, Breyers contained 5% sodium (125 mg) per pint while Halo Top 12% sodium (280 mg) per pint.

Fiber Stats

Since Halo Top has a prebiotic fiber, it is expected to contain higher fiber than Breyers Delight.

The Breyers Chocolate Chip ice cream has 50% fiber (14g) per pint, while Halo Top Chocolate Chip has 64% fiber (18g) per pint.

Breyers Delights Ice Cream

Halo Top uses sugar, erythritol, and stevia leaf extract [2] to sweeten the ice cream without adding additional calories to the ice cream.

Erythritol is a sugar alcohol found in different fruits like watermelon and grapes. Stevia is extracted from a plant and can add sweetness to food without worrying about calories.

Breyers Delights uses Polydextrose, Maltitol syrup, and Glycerin to sweeten the ice cream. These sweeteners are low in calories than refined sugar.

Milk & Cream

Halo Top uses skim milk, ultrafiltered skim milk, and less cream as the base ingredients.

On the other hand, Breyers Delight uses skim milk and cream to make the low-cal ice cream.

Flavor Variety

When it comes to flavor offerings, Halo Top is the clear winner as Breyers has begun venturing into the low-cal ice cream market.

There are 26 low-calorie ice cream flavors to choose from. They have Raspberry White Chip, Chocolate Cake Batter, Birthday Cake, Blueberry Crumble, Candy Bar, and Caramel Macchiato.

They also have Chocolate, Chocolate Caramel Brownies, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Mocha Chip, Cookies & Cream, Mint Chip, Oatmeal Cookie, and Peaches & Cream.

In addition, they have Peanut Butter Cups, Pistachio, Red Velvet, Sea Salt Caramel, Strawberry, Vanilla Bean, and Vanilla Caramel Milkshake.

On the other hand, Breyers Delights has ten different low-calorie ice cream flavors to choose from.

They have Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Brownie Ala Mode, Mint Fudge Cookie, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Mint Chip, Almond Bar, Butter Pecan, and Vanilla Bar.

Price Point

Breyers Delights is cheaper than Halo Top. A pint of Halo Top ranges from $5-$6 depending on the store, while you can score Breyers Delights for around $3-$5.

Breyers increased the competition to Halo Top by providing cheaper but still guilt-free ice creams.

However, since they have limited flavor offerings, many are willing to spend additional bucks to get the flavor they want.

Are There Any Similarities?

Breyers Delights and Halo Top are high-protein and low-calorie ice creams. They both use skim milk and cream, but the quantity and the recipe can differ.

On A Final Note

It was a close fight between Bryers Delights and Halo Top, but Halo Top got the upper hand for being the best low calorie ice cream.

We’re not saying that Breyers Delights is not good. In fact, it is a cheaper choice and contains low calories too.

However, nutritional-wise, Halo Top contains fewer calories and higher fiber than Breyers. In addition, Halo Top has 26 flavors to choose from, so we can all be happy and guilt-free when eating ice cream.
